Moments Worth Painting Gallery Exhibition

“Over the years, I have realised that I need to spend time in the places I paint. I need to be there, to soak them up and get a feel for them.

This collection is really about that way of looking at the world. It is about the pleasure of being somewhere, taking your time and noticing things.

I don't think I am necessarily trying to record a place exactly as it is. I am more interested in how it feels to be there, the sparkle of sunlight on water, the unexpected harmony of colours in a shop window, the character of a room or the gentle light falling across a Cornish garden. And those are the moments that stay with me long after I have moved on” - Sarah Wimperis

Sarah has spent the last few months doing what she loves most; travelling, exploring and painting. This new body of work is a celebration of colour, the changing seasons and the unique character of the places that inspire her. Through the mediums of oil, acrylic and watercolour Sarah depicts the familiar Cornish landscapes close to home to the sun-drenched streets, gardens and interiors of France, each painting capturing something of the pleasure of simply being somewhere and taking the time to look.

There is a wonderful sense of nostalgia in Sarah’s approach to painting. Travelling with a portable painting kit tucked into her backpack, she delights in the freedom of setting up wherever inspiration strikes. Rather than recording a place exactly as it appears, Sarah seeks to capture how it feels to be there. And this collection delivers just that.
