Early Morning Seen Through Clouds

This was a morning dog walk in early winter, after a frost, with low cloud.  The painting became a partially imagined landscape in that the viewpoint is imagined, above the trees, high enough to give the landscape a slightly otherworldly feel and low enough to show detail, like the person and dog.  I wanted to show the textures of winter trees, fog and frost, to see the landscape appearing and disappearing.   I also wanted to break up the picture to enable me to work on individual “abstract” miniature images within the whole painting.
